This was conveyed by the Head of Emergency and Logistics BPBD W Sumatra Rumainur.

He said, the flood almost submerged the entire area on the coast of West Sumatra.

The floods were caused by quite heavy rainfall since Thursday night, 13 July 2023, at 19.30 WIB.

“Almost the entire coastal area of ​​West Sumatra was flooded. The worst area is Padang City,” he said.

“Until now there are still several points in the city of Padang which are still inundated. There are also residents who have fled,” said Rumainur.

“There are also people who have fled,” said Rumainur.

“In addition, the flood disaster also hit Padang Pariaman Regency. There are around 1,000 affected people in Padang Pariaman. “The Padang Pariaman BPBD is currently providing food assistance to the homes of affected residents. This is because residents do not want to flee,” he said.

He explained that other areas affected by the floods were the South Coast, Agam, the Mentawai Islands and Kota Pariaman.

“The data we have collected shows that the area is not only experiencing floods, but also landslides,” said Rumainur.

Then for the victims there were 2 people who were buried by landslides in Agam Regency and 1 person died in Pariaman City.
