BONSERNEWS.com – Makassar Customs and Excise intervened to carry out an inspection of one of the pilgrims named Suarnati Daeng Kanang.
He became the one on social media because he wore 180 grams of gold when he returned from Mecca.
As it turned out, the jewelery worn by Suarnati Daeng Kanang was not gold, but an imitation item purchased for Rp. 900,000.

Makassar Customs and Excise has conducted an inspection at his residence, on Monday (10/7/2023).
He showed that the gold necklace was the same as the one he was wearing.
The inspection went smoothly without a hitch.

“We also matched it with the video and we concluded that it was indeed the same item or jewelery when he came from Jeddah to Makassar Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport,” said Makassar Customs and Excise Public Relations Officer Ria Novika Sari, quoted on Tuesday (11/7/2023) .
The Public Relations Officer of Makassar Customs also said that Suarnati bought the rhinestones while performing the Hajj pilgrimage.
Suarnati Daeng Kanang also admitted that she bought the imitation necklace for IDR 900,000.
“Yes, and the person concerned said that it was true that the goods were purchased from abroad and were imitations. The price was approximately Rp. 900 thousand, so it is under Rp. 1 million,” he said.
It is certain that the pilgrims from Makassar will not be subject to import duties and taxes on imported goods.
It is known that according to the procedure, the new tax is imposed on the nominal price brought from abroad which is in the range of US$ 500, or if converted to rupiah it is around IDR 7 million.
