BONSERNEWS.com – An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 5.5 rocked the city of Banda Aceh.
Lindu centered on the sea can be felt as far as the Pidie Jaya region.
Head of the Aceh Besar Geophysics Station Andi Azhar Rusdin, said the earthquake centered at 5.47° North Latitude, 94.62° East Longitude occurred at a distance of about 78 kilometers southwest of Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar.

The location is at a depth of 66 kilometers.
“Taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a medium-sized earthquake due to plate subduction activity. The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has an upward movement mechanism,” said Andi.
According to him, the earthquake was felt in Banda Aceh City with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI.

Meanwhile in Aceh Besar it is felt on the MMI III scale and Sabang, Pidie and Pidie Jaya on the MMI II-III scale.
“Until now there has been no report on the impact of the damage caused by the earthquake. The modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami,” he explained.
According to Andi, until 21.30 WIB there were no aftershocks recorded.
He appealed to the public not to be affected by hoax issues related to the earthquake.
“We urge the public to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake,” Andi said.
