Here’s the statement by KAI’s VP Public Relations, Joni Martinus, assuring that there were no fatalities in the Brantas train accident


BONSERNEWS.com – Indonesian Railways (KAI) VP Public Relations Joni Martinus ensured that there were no fatalities from the accident that the KA 112 (KA Brantas) Pasar Senen Blitar relation collided with a tronton truck at JPL 6 Km 1+523 section of the Jerakah-Semarang Poncol road.

Joni said the engineer and assistant engineer and the train passengers were declared safe.

However, there was damage to facilities, infrastructure, and delays in train travel.

Currently, KAI officers assisted by related parties are still evacuating trains and evacuating the wreckage of trucks that are stuck on bridges near level crossings.

“We remind you again that the rules for crossing level crossings are to stop at the STOP sign, look left and right, when you are sure it is safe, then you can cross,” said Joni.

As a result of this incident, the Brantas train locomotive caught fire and 2 train lines on the Semarang Poncol section of Jerakah are currently impassable.

In accordance with Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Transport Traffic, article 114 states “At level crossings between railroad tracks and roads, drivers are required to:

a. Stop when the signal has sounded, the rail doors have started to close and/or there are other signals.

b. Preceding the train, and

c. Give primary rights to vehicles that cross the tracks first.

If road users do not comply with these rules, legal sanctions await, according to the legal sanctions stated in Law No: 22 of 2009, article 296 which reads:

“Anyone who drives a Motorized Vehicle at the crossing between the train and the road who does not stop when the signal has sounded, the train’s doorstop has been closed, and/or there are other signals as referred to in Article 114 letter a shall be subject to imprisonment for a maximum of 3 (three) (three) times. three) months or a maximum fine of Rp. 750,000.00 (seven hundred and fifty thousand rupiah).”
